Lake Light

At the risk of giving people lake fatigue, here are a couple of shots of the light this evening looking Northeast. Given a sunset and the sky, I could keep myself occupied for years with a camera, some paints and  oh, even a ballpoint pen would do if there was some poetry in it.

The more pedestrian shot of the breakwall shows how high the water is right now. Normally it would be about 3 feet lower than this.

2 Early Valentines

Out of 10 of these, 2 worked when I took photographs of them, and you see those here. Normally I scan these because I manage to do very weird things to the work when I photograph them. Somehow, in this collection the ones on the left were waltzing off into distortion-land while the right ones were fine. I admit to being technology inept in this instance. 

These 2 weren't wobbly or wiggly. I'll get the others in the scanner when I get home. They aren't your usual valentine, but their incongruity tickles me. I originally planned to use some yearbook photos but the pieces and parts of art history books elbowed their way into the compositions and I didn't fight them. So much for planning.

Hiatus

I'm back at the lake and working on 10 valentines for an exchange that benefits Habitat for Humanity and I'll be lucky if I get any visuals up before I get home on the 31st. I planned one thing for the valentines and, as usual, they went in a direction that the gods of chance must have ordained. Collage! It has a mind of its own.

Snow is falling here and the lake has frozen over nearly up to the top of the break-wall, the neighbors yard is a small ice-rink!

I might take photos of the valentines so they may get into these pages yet!

Most Recent Christmas Past

Sister Joan was the divine hostess (with her whole family, of course) of our Christmas Soiree this year and a marvelous time was had by all. The food was divine and the views of Lake Rockwell were spectacular! 

2008 Cookie Party

Tonight was the annual holiday soiree! Attendance was sparse but there was more food for everyone that way. I'm really exhausted right now so I'll just put the pictures up.

Quickly

I'll just squeeze an entry in here in between running here and there getting ready for the family Christmas (Cookie) party. Only there aren't just cookies. It all goes back to my late aunt and uncle who had a get together and everybody brought something and everybody grazed until they were stuffed.

Anyway, some ATCs here! 

A Holiday Card

The day after this was taken, the lake froze overnight and then the next morning, the temp rose and winds picked up and it liquified again. Watching water is never boring. The dark birds are coots. I hope they went to warmer water!

Postcard 1

Remember the workshop demo I did  last month? This is one of two postcard sized works that took a turn completely different from the others.

Sometimes I'll work with an idea in mind and then one part starts to dictate another part and voila! Something entirely different happens. It stands to reason, I have a harder time making up my mind than the parts of my collage.

Sunday at Severance

Went to Severance Hall on Sunday for their annual Christmas concert with friends and as usual was dazzled by the performance (which I can't figure out how to put on audio here, not to speak of the lighting effects)! So all I can show you are shots of the interior and exterior from the program. The Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus (all the chorus performers are volunteers) are one of many well-kept secrets of NorthEastern Ohio.

To a Friend

This one's going to friend who was kind enough to send me materials to work with. I'm interested in making the stitching less tidy and unpredictable.
