This year's entry for "Fresh". Remains to be seen as to whether it will be in the show or not. Judges are an unpredictable lot. The theme this year is "the letter Q". The second part of the title for this post is the title for the piece.
As the title tells, this was leftover. Only 2 originals were made this year with several copies of each. I handed those out randomly to folks I knew and gave the last one to the cashier at the grocery. I think I'll do that next year.....it was as much fun as handing out money!
Most of my work (that I like) is carefully considered and formal, it developes slowly and the meanings aren't always evident until it's finished. And artist friend of mine says my process is very cerebral. I do other kinds of art in my journals that is more spontaneous and colorful and lately I'm on a quest to do more visceral work.....at least for awhile. This started out as intentionally more spontaneous, colorful, kinetic, but went downhill fast. So I painted over it with some interior latex and then it became more.....cerebral. I'm not a big fan of learning from failure but I hope it's informing me.
Coordinates have been showing up a lot lately in the work. Some sort of visual obsession going on here but I don't have a clue as to it's genesis. I just keep coming back to them. So of course they showed up in this month's exchange.
Contrary to news reports we are not buried in snow (OK, the NE is, but it floated north of us). It freezes, it thaws and melts, it snows and rains and the sun shines too! When these were taken in January, it reached 60 degrees and the ice fishers were smart enough to get off the ice:
