Carving my own, using the papers made in October at the Icons event (from Bonnie's carvings), cutting and recutting, reprinting those papers and making my cover page for an archive about mandalas. This has no meaning outside of pointing to my interest in the linear patterns of branches and grass. Working on these is meditative and nothing like working on the pieces for Dollar$igns.
It's problematic, too busy and I've already printed over the mid-section with a newly carved plate but it's the 2nd direction I'm taking until next October. The show about money, Dollar$igns, will be opening then and the 6th annual Icon meet-up will be just after that. The Icons project this year is an archive of your choosing that will not be sent out to others, we'll just come together in NY and work on art for the archives there. For whatever reason, I've been doing work in circle forms since Bret gave me the refrigerator graphs in circle shapes, so the choice of Mandala came easily. This is a rough start but I'm on to the title page and that is shaping up. So my only entries here will be related to money and mandalas until next October. At least that's the plan.
For the exhibit. Perhaps. I've decided to just work within the theme and some will make the cut, others won't. That takes some of the pressure off. This one has painted and printed papers and is not unified enough....but doing it is part of knowing how to do it the next time, so it will do.
Some of the things I was working on at the annual Icon gathering in Union Pier. Many of the accoutrements are courtesy of Bonnie, who was moving her studio. Many of the techniques used here were Anne's and Bonnie's also. It was a lovely time!
