Rachel's Caution

I'm not certain it will show up with this resolution, but this fresh and springy work has a nearly invisible message punched into the lighter green scraps.....the names of a variety of unsafe agricultural methods. Hence, the title....a play on Rachel Carson's book, SILENT SPRING. I can only hope Rachel will forgive me.

Ohio Midas x 3

The subject for this month's exchange was money and after all the reading I do about finance that theme just seems to roll for me. Guys in suits, formal smiles and the color green, a poem to the good old banking system of the US. It's the one topic I warm to and then seem to be able to compose decently. Yes, the empty faces are full of shredded money.

Buying False Promises

More about the money guys. Collage. Yes, that is Isaiah in the background covered up with false promises. Not to mix my metaphors but it could have been Cassandra as well. I always had a soft spot for poor Cassandra.....

The Banker Who Played with Money Turns into a Shower of Gold

This is a 4x6 version of "The Banker...." . It's a good thing I made him because the original "Banker" was sold at the Fresh Exhibit and there's no getting him back. Two and 1/2 pounds of shredded money purchased from the Bureau of Engraving inspired this version. There may be more comments on the money theme in the pipeline because 2&1/2 pounds turns out to be a lot! All collage. 

An Anonymous Number Boy

This figure really is anonymous, I'm not even certain at this point who gave me this shot. But whoever it  is, I'm privileged to give him a 2nd life. These pieces will be combined at some point into 1 or 2 patchwork-like collages. 

THE BANKER WHO EMBROIDERED THE TRUTH AND BECAME A SHOWER OF GOLD won 1st place at the Fresh Current Affairs Exhibit at Summit ArtSpace. To say I'm thrilled is understatement......and my friend Annette, who attended art classes with me in highschool won 2nd! How amazing is that? If you are in the area, please stop in and see this very strong show, it's open Thursday-Saturday 12-5. While you are there, stop up on the 3rd floor and see the small-scale show for Ohio Collage Society, they are open Friday and Saturday, same time.

The Banker Who Embroidered the Truth Turns into a Shower of Gold

This may not be done (I'm thinking a few more gold dots) and it may not even be as topical as the Fresh Show likes but it's my entry and I'm sticking to it. And I even had another idea.....but this was too far along to abandon ship. More on Laura's red dress tomorrow.

DoDos and Any State (just happens to be mine for this)

I was reconciling another larger piece that seem to point in the direction of population problems when this one came together on the table. It's a tad clearer than the larger one but surprisingly the formal parts of this didn't go to hell as they usually do. This is eggshell and collage.

 

Response to the Mess in the Gulf

At one point it was hard to go on working as the news about the oil-leak came in. And then I thought about all the migratory birds coming through the area that will be covered in crude. I'll be doing more walking to get around.....this is collage and drawing, to be more precise, cross-hatching with marker.
