Text and Lace

These look like guests at a wedding or a confirmation.....but that really didn't occur to me until I saw this on the page, scale is everything apparently. Speaking of which, if I can, I want to do one of these large scale, at least 30x60 inches. The trick will be keeping my focus, it is by no accident that I work small. This is about 24x13 inches.

Shell Game

This is #6. Very symettrical and different from the preceding shell themed collages. Papers, shell, thread and photography.

Rose Took a Chance

He looks way spookier than I thought he would.....#5 of 8. Collage, photo, chine colle, papers and eggshell. I don't plan these out at all so what you see is a response of one area to another.

Number 4 of 8. The more I do, the better I like them. Collage, chine colle, photo.

Cranach's 4th Muse

4th muse, 3rd in a series of 8. It's been altered a bit already and the very black and white muses (along with a bemused cavalier) have been tinted a warm sienna. I like this one best so far. 5 more to go. I spent the morning fooling around with small paper-mache shapes because I got the idea to stagger the flat work in frames with little sculptures made of book papers and hang them all on the wall like a giant checkerboard. I'm not certain it'll work for November.....

Mask of Shell and Cherries

2nd in a series of 8 planned for the November show with Katina, "Change in Common". These are changing every time I do one, the 8th one should be a surprise. Collage with papers and egg shell. I'm thinking about some paint, perhaps a glaze....

Red Dot's Old Flame Defined

This is taken through plexi, unfortunately. But sometimes it just rolls that way. I was using the same vocabulary as I did on another stitched piece here on the blog on 4/11/12. This was entered into the Rubber City Juried Show with it's companion so we shall see.........Collage and thread.

The Number for the Mask

The exhibit in November with Katina is approaching and this is one of the smaller pieces (there will be 16 in total, Lord willing and the creek don't rise). Eight will be stitched and eight will be collage with paper strips. I've already changed this one by putting light text transfers on the white of the envelope pieces. Eggshells are heavy with metaphor and remind me of junior high mosaics as well so I think there will be eggshell in the next 7 pieces.

Oh Blue, Your Number is Up.

I recently saw a drawing with lines that looked suitable for stitching, and so I did. This is mostly collage with blue threads. The ground is a mass of notebook paper with lottery combinations written on it (not by me, by Brenda's late uncle, who apparently amassed a fortune with his strategy). It's also my entry into the show going up at Studio 2091 Gallery with sprirals as a theme. It's curated by a former student of mine, Kevin Smalley. The show opens on Easter, come on down! Kevin assures me there will be chocolate bunnies.

9Head was an Old Flame

The stitching on this one is decidedly at angles rather than precisely random. I've been thinking for awhile about giving the string something to do and it turns out to be harder than I thought. This one will go into November's show at The Box.
