.....a solid though broad explanation of what collage does to our perception. The work featured is disorienting:

Member Karen Koch of Life Need Art sent this along in case anyone would be interested in seeing it:
While the term “cut and paste” has taken on a new meaning in the digital age, contemporary artists continue to stick with tradition and use collage and paper cutting as a way to extend and explore imagery. The artists in this exhibition use faux fur, candy wrappers, found photographs, even fruit stickers — everything is fair game. The results are both intricate and surprising and speak to the different ways that artists use the materials around them to make their work. The exhibition includes artworks from the Cleveland Clinic collection as well as works on loan by an international group of artists working in a variety of different media.

The 14th of April at Studio 2091 Gallery from 1-3pm will be another collage soiree for OCS members and folks interested in becoming a member. Bring your supplies and enjoy the camaraderie of other collage-obsessed artists.
Amy's gallery will be the site of our member show in November, so if you haven't seen it, now is your chance.

After a board meeting yesterday about the Dayton Annual Member Show, keep these things in mind:
1. Art must be delivered to Shirley E. or Chris P. to get a ride down to Dayton by the 15th of October.
2. Please make sure art to go is securely wrapped and padded, your friendly transporters get very worried when they receive a naked collage and can't be certain it will come back to you safely. So wrap them up!
3. If you enclose your check on the back of your work (outside the wrapping) that will help us with our records.
4. Prospectus and entry form links follow this post, if you haven't entered/renewed, do it today!
And now the miscellaneous part from Gretchen B., this sounds fun:
Dear Landfillart Artist,This is very exciting time for The Landfillart Project! We are nearing completion of the first phase of our mission. We only need 150 additional, professional artists to join us on our Landfillart "voyage", allowing us to realize our original goal of establishing a collection of 1,041 total art projects. We can then move forward and start phase 2- publishing The Landfillart Book, which will include every piece completed for the project. Please pass on our website www.landfillart.org, and have your fellow artists contact me. If the artist mentions your name, it will help speed up the selection process.Thank you for your help and participation in The Landfillart Project.Sincerely,Ken Marquis

We met, we glued, we worked on postcards for the NCS show coming up and on ATCs for the OCS show in March. Our gracious hostess, Amy Mothersbaugh-Roos showed us around her gallery and plied us with pizza. It was a good day to work in an inspiring space and here are the photos to prove it:
Gwen at work on postcards.
Lucy is one of the artists featured on the postcard for our upcoming show in March.
Our vice-president, Chris, deep in thought. She has a piece featured on the publicity postcard for the show as well.
Jan also has a collage on our postcard, and our esteemed founder, Gretchen is below.
Join us next time, times and places will appear here on the blog. Scroll down for prospectus for the 3.5x2.5 exhibit coming up in March.

Our talented member Kathleen Harrington has written an article about the art referred to as ATCs and ACEOs. The size of this art is always a standard 2&1/2x3&1/2 and was the inspiration for the exhibit that will be held at The Box Gallery in March (scroll down to previous entry for the prospectus). The acronym for the art has changed a bit to suit our work, ACCO stands for Artist Card, Collage Original but Kathleen sums it all up for the more well-known terms:
It is a very small format, but there are upsides to that. Start today, renew your membership (if you haven't already) and be there at the intake!
